Although not “protected”, Maison Canna is one of 74 houses in Montmorillon listed under the Patrimoine (heritage) architecture of France compiled by the Ministry of Culture & Communication. The house dates from the 1700s but was unoccupied other than as a store and workshop for some 50 years before we bought it in 2006 and began its restoration.

Adjacent to the River Gartempe, which can be seen from the first floor (see photo below) this charming detached house has a secluded private terrace to the rear with BBQ and garden furniture(above).

It is situated in a quiet little street on the edge of the famous Medieval Cité de L’Écrit yet is just a few minutes stroll to the town's main attractions, bars and excellent restaurants.

The spacious sitting room features two large sofas either side of a log-burning stove and you will also find a selection of books, games and visitor information.

The fully-fitted kitchen has a gas cooker, microwave and dishwasher and there is a separate utility with fridge/freezer and washing machine. A door leads directly to the terrace for easy al fresco dining. There is a dining area with table for four next to the kitchen.

There are two en-suite bedrooms, one with shower, one with bath/shower. On the first floor is a double bedroom and on the second floor, which has exposed oak beams from floor to ceiling, there are twin beds. A cot is also available.

There is a garage attached which is sufficiently large for one car and an adjacent public car park. to check availability and prices click here
