Large, tastefully restored 17 th century house, with private walled courtyard, games room with table tennis, gardens and heated pool (10m x 4.5m), spacious BBQ area, within the famous Medieval Cité de L’Écrit. Very quiet yet just two minutes walk from the town’s main attractions, bars and excellent restaurants. Sleeps up to 12 in six bedrooms, plus cot. French & English antique furniture, inc beds. Centrally heated.

Grand Salon (13m x 4m), with dining and lounge areas, log burning stove. Fully equipped kitchen inc large gas range cooker and American-style fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher etc. Separate washroom/wine store. Beautiful, original circular oak staircase. Three bathrooms + downstairs loo.

House designed to accommodate large family groups or smaller parties

Ideal for family/friends get-togethers

Tour of the House

Most people use the back door so we’ll start there (although we are very fond of our ancient three-quarter front door even though it was a horror to restore)

The large, spacious kitchen features free-standing furniture with solid beech work surfaces.

In the centre is the large, five-burner stainless steel gas range. There is also a dishwasher and microwave. Windows look out to the side and rear of the house making the kitchen really light and airy.

Crockery is mostly white Limoges porcelain and there is an extensive range of pots, pans and cooking utensils, glasses etc. Plenty for a party of 12.

Because the kitchen leads directly to the patio and barbeque area, al fresco dining is easy.

Adjacent to the kitchen (to the right of the back door) is the huge utility area with washing machine and large American-style fridge-freezer with ice-maker. The downstairs loo is next to the utility.

At the front of the house on the ground floor you will find the fantastic “Grand Salon” which is over 13m long by 4m wide. The dining area features a magnificent English Oak table which will seat 12 people plus high chair. In chilly weather there is a large log burning stove at the sitting end of the salon to supplement the central heating.

Around the fire you will find an array of sumptuous leather sofas and chairs, TV and CD player.

The house is well stocked with books, board games, jigsaws and English videos.

Rising from the centre of the Salon is the beautiful oak spiral staircase which leads to four of the bedrooms plus two bathrooms.

Bedrooms all have original polished oak floors and rugs and are furnished to an extremely high standard with antique wardrobes, chest of drawers and plenty of easy chairs, lamps, tables etc.

Beds in the house, including the antique French ones, have new deep-sprung English mattresses for complete comfort!

The first bedroom (5.5m x 4.8m) is really pretty with an authentic curtained French double bed between two magnificent walk-in wardrobes.

There is an additional single bed should you wish to use this as a twin room.

There is a bathroom with shower, loo and basin, all installed in 2004, with white tiled floor and walls.

The second bedroom has a King size bed and a lovely original full length wardrobe. There is also a sofa and easy chair.

Up the spiral stairs again, past the illuminated “petite niches” you will find two further bedrooms and a loo with wash basin.

These are the prettiest bedrooms in the house with exposed beams and lovely antique beds. Both have two beds, one single and one a slightly smaller than average double bed which will sleep two.

The other two bedrooms and bathroom are found at the top of the second oak staircase which leads from the door in the Salon to the rear of the house.

The first bedroom, with exposed beams and built-in cupboard has a double French bed, the second is very large with fabulous exposed beams, one double and one single bed.

The bathroom with bath, shower, loo, basin and bidet is again all white with tiled floor and walls.

Outside

Outside there is a very large games room with table tennis table and a selection of games, darts board etc. You will find sun-loungers and garden furniture here.

The private courtyard at the rear is completely enclosed and a wonderful sun trap. There is a large glass-topped table and outdoor dining chairs. The barbecue is adjacent.

Across the courtyard is the quaint little pigeonnier - now pool house - with a door which leads through to the private walled pool garden. The pool is 10m x 4.5m and is heated from the beginning of April to the end of September at a constant 27deg!
