Montmorillon

Montmorillon, and in particular the Cité de L’Écrit, has become a magnet for a diverse range of artists who now have galleries and workshops throughout the town.

In the main square is the gallery of Claude Pacaud, a local self-taught artist whose work, a mix of abstract and realism, features poppies, and the natural landscape of Provence with its fields of lavender, thyme and olives. www.pacaud.fr.st

Having studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Limoge, Sylvie works in a whole range of mediums - oil, watercolour, engraving, calligraphy and sculpture - and has exhibited throughout the region. She also runs a number of courses - for more information click here:

A recent addition to Le Cité de L’Écrit is "Utopiarts", the workshop of Chinese calligrapher and artist, Monsieur Yang. M. Yang studied fine art first in Peking and then Bordeaux before settling in Paris. He has had numerous exhibitions across France and moved to Montmorillon in 2006. The name of his workshop is said to reflect the combination of poetry and art in his work. for more click here

Another relative new-comer to Montmorillon is young potter Delphine Richard, whose work shop is on Rue Champien. From a family of potters, Delphine studied for five years, worked in the earthenware centre at Gien and with her parents before striking out on her own in Le Cité de L’Écrit.

Eau en Couleurs is where you will find Jean-Louis Dellys an illustrator who works primarily with watercolour crayons. As well as being a gallery for his work Eau en Couleurs specialises in painting courses for adults and children. For more information click here
